vintage here, vintage there: misha lulu mixed in

vintage here, vintage there
This week's "vintage here, vintage there" is a bit of vintage mixed in with my favorite children line, Misha Lulu. Seriously, if my girls aren't wearing vintage, they are more than likely wearing Misha Lulu. I often tell Karen, the lovely lady behind Misha Lulu, she needs to branch out and do women's clothes because her eye for design, fabric, and pattern is just impeccable!
vintage here, vintage there
This is what we all wore to church on Sunday and out to the flea market. Weather here has been wonderfully sunny and not overly warm, so just a perfect combination to bare some legs but still wear a cardigan. Of course, my children always insist they are hot and don't really keep their cardigans on these days.
vintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage there
True has a very precise idea of what she wants to wear (or how to fix her hair) on a daily basis. Sometimes, her ideas and my ideas aren't on the same page and thus a bit of an argument will ensue. If she had her way everyday, every day would be pink day! Lucky for me, this dress is the perfect combination of pink and funky and not your normal froo froo girly kinda dress.
vintage here, vintage there
My Brave on the other hand, still pretty much lets me dress her. Her one request of late is that she is allowed to wear some sort of pants of leggings with every outfit. Bravey is also our little Madeline as that is her favorite children's book and thus this vintage hat goes everywhere she goes!
vintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage there
Soulie of course could care less about what she is wearing! So she is stuck wearing whatever I put her in. I am sure her opinions will be coming out soon enough!

on me: dress, vintage. cardigan, kohls. shoes, seychelles via anthropologie.
on true: dress, misha lulu. shoes, vintage.
on brave: dress, misha lulu. peter pan collared shirt, vintage. leggings, misha lulu. shoes, siaomimi via gilt.
on soul: dress, misha lulu. sweatshirt, vintage.

Check out Rachel and Ruby "over there", as Ruby is also sporting some Misha Lulu. I can't wait to see how Rachel styles vintage in with her outfit. Rachel is another lady with impeccable style and it is evident by her newest e-course, be sure to sign up here. I have seen it and it is really good folks!

vintage here, vintage there: soulie and me

vintage here, vintage there
I really don't get dressed up much during the week, especially during cooler weather, so I look forward to the weekends for dressing up. This is what Soulie and I wore on Saturday when we went to my friend's engagement party and our afternoon date.

The jacket is one I got from anthro when they had their super sale around Christmastime. I have come so close to returning it many times because honestly, I "work" at home and it isn't really cold in California, so how many times will I actually use it?! Well, it has come in handy 3 times already, so it is not going back to the store for this cute jacket.

Lately, I much prefer wear a maxi skirt over a dress. I tell you, every pregnancy my mood for dressing has been different. Though most vintage skirts are maxi skirts on me, cause I am so darn short. I am sure most of you tower over me! I think I have only 3 maxi skirts, so I definitely need to stock up on more to last me through the spring and summer.

Rachel and Ruby are sure to be wearing something super cute "over there"! They always do so you will want to make sure to see what they are wearing too!

vintage here, vintage there: a vintage easter

vintage here, vintage there
Me oh my... I am alive (in case any of you were wondering)!

I was really burnt out after the wedding shower on Saturday. I had been going strong like a cleaning maniac for about two months now, all in preparation for the party and once it was over, I was clearly done for. Throw in the fact that during that two month period I was still in my first trimester of pregnancy, and if you have been pregnant before, you know what that's like. Your house is super messy from the first trimester woes, then to get it back in working order is like fighting an uphill battle, especially when three little kids are involved. My house is now clean, except the room (and maybe closets) with all the junk thrown in, and the ginormous pile of laundry that won't seem to go away!

Now we are here. Here being that Easter is this Sunday (you are invited to join us) and True's fifth birthday is next Tuesday. Don't even ask me what we are doing for True's birthday, cause honestly, we don't even know! We have a few ideas, but so many things are up in the air right now, so we aren't sure.

Let me first tackle what event is coming up next... Easter! Resurrection Sunday!!! I have been wanting to buy the girls' new (vintage) outfits, but after all the cleaning I did, I decided, 1) they didn't really need clothes and 2) I don't really have extra pennies to buy them more. Okay, maybe I did a slight trade and got one thing, but that isn't so bad, right?!! The big girls will wear some dresses that were in their closets and haven't been worn yet (by them), so that is special enough for me.
vintage here, vintage there
True paired my hat with this outfit herself and no, the hot pink shorts underneath aren't part of the whole deal. At least not on Sunday. It is a bit big and a really stiff polyester, but good thing she loves the dress so she isn't really complaining about the feel. She says now she gets to be Madeline in this dress. I will just have to take in the sleeves and width of the dress a bit, but then it will be good to go on Sunday.
vintage here, vintage there
I had a couple options for Brave, but settled on this one. I can't remember if it had been worn before, but it is too adorable to not wear again, especially for such an occasion such as Resurrection Sunday.
vintage here, vintage there
Soulie's dress is the only one I got and it came from Ms. Tips. Originally, I was thinking something a bit dressier, but really I loved the picnic feel of the dress and she looks darn cute in it, so that sold me!
vintage here, vintage there
The girls are such hams together! It is hard to get them all in one picture because either one is off running around or getting more costumes or just plain not staying still. Imagine next year there will be one more into this mix?!! Crazy!!!
vintage here, vintage there
As for me, I have no clue what to wear just yet. This baby is kinda moody and hard to dress, so who knows what I will feel like wearing on Sunday.

If you still need an Easter outfit here are some of my faves...

Be sure to check out "over there" and see what little lady Ruby might be wearing for Easter. Now that little girl has got some great options! They have even have the shoe department covered. I figured we would figure that out as we were running out the door to church on Sunday morning! Do you have your Easter outfit figured out?

Don't forget if you are in the Los Angeles area, you are more than welcome to join us to celebrate Easter! We will have a buffet lunch and the Cupcake Princess (as seen on food network's Cupcake Wars) will be there with some cupcakes for all who come! And it would be fun to meet some of you!

I will be taking a bit more of a blogging break, (yes, I am still drained) so the next few days will be posts filled with some fun giveaways from me and my sponsors! Promise to be back to normal sometime next week.

xoxo

vintage here, vintage there: a casual day

vintage here, vintage there
I finally left the house on Sunday to go to church (I didn't go anywhere at all last week) and I was feeling so yucky that all I wanted to throw on were a pair of jeans and a tee! Thus, it was dubbed a casual "vintage here, vintage there" for the week.

Then, my prego mama brain went into overdrive and as were about to take pictures with my nikon, I realized I forgot to put the battery in, so we decided to do the pictures using hipstamatic app on ben's phone. Yup. This mama is definitely pregnant!
vintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage there
I feel like I am kinda cheating this week because the only vintage I am actually wearing is the kelly green cardigan. I found it thrifting in San Antonio over the holidays and totally thought it was polyester, so I stuck it in the wash. When I took it out it was a tad bit smaller, so I looked at the label and saw that it was actually pure virgin wool! Oi!!! It was originally a bit bigger, so now I like the fit a lot better, but washing it did give it some teeny tiny holes all over that I had to hand sew close. You can hardly tell the holes are there now and I still love it nonetheless. It is a lesson to look at the label before you throw it in the wash!
vintage here, vintage there
True was sleeping in the car, so I didn't bother waking her up because she was extremely tired and we noticed she may have the startings of a cold. My Brave and Soul were happy to be freed and able to roam a bit taking some pictures.
vintage here, vintage there
Soul's cowichan sweater is from oh, sydney and it is one of my favorite vintage things we have for her! I really wish it came in my size, but I think I could say that about a lot of the kid vintage stuff they have.
vintage here, vintage there
Brave's dress vintage dress is totally another style that I wish came in my size! Though of late, the idea of wearing a dress doesn't sound too pleasant to me. When I was pregnant with Brave all I wanted to wear was pants. Then when I was pregnant with Soul all I wanted to wear were dresses! This time around all I want to wear are pajamas!!! Do you think I could make it socially acceptable to wear my pj's out and about?!! Yeah. I didn't think so.
vintage here, vintage there
on me: jeans, seven. shirt, kohls. cardigan, vintage thrifted. scarf, some little shop in seattle. ballet flats, jessica simpson.
on brave: dress, lishyloo. shoes, siaomimi via gilt.

cute cardigans for the cool spring days ahead: sweet pink, beaded cardigan, robin egg blue, green and white, granny pink
little cardigans for the cool spring days ahead: balloon, chicken button, knit sweater, plaid letter, little red

Head over to Rachel's and see the super cute vintage housedress she is wearing and the little yellow dress we gave to Miss Ruby before she was even born! It is still cold over there in Missouri, but they are getting pretty excited for warm days ahead (keeping fingers crossed). I hope to be my normal wanting to get dressed up self soon... 2 more weeks until this first trimester is over!!!

vintage here, vintage there: just me

vintage here, vintage there
I feel this is a somewhat lonely post as it is just me sans kids (well, I have the baby inside me, does that count?). I had every intention of doing a post including them, but yesterday's and today's weather has just been bad, so it just wasn't feasible to snap any pictures of them dressed up cute in vintage! You are now stuck with a post of just me from a few weeks ago.

I wore this outfit on a nice sunny day to go out treasure hunting with my sister (see her outfit post of the same day here). We grabbed lunch, found some goodies, then went to visit some friends at the school I used to work at. It was a nice day out and I was tired when I got home. Though, it seems I am always tired when I get home. Pregnancy (and having three kids) takes a lot out of you!
vintage here, vintage there
I am a short gal, so wearing vintage dresses with the bump has been especially difficult because of where the waist falls on some of my vintage dresses. For this dress, I kind of had to tuck in the skirt up to make the waist fall somewhere more flattering and accentuate the bump. The little peplum also accentuate it.
vintage here, vintage there
My go to shoes are always ballet flats and of course my purse of sorts is a tapestry bag. I am just in love with those and will keep collecting them forever, until I run out of room or Ben makes me stop.
vintage here, vintage there
I really feel lonely looking at these pics without my girls. I feel naked without them!

on me: dress, vintage. cardigan, target. shoes, jessica simpson. tapestry bag, vintage via the attic people (told you I love their shop!).

The rain is back, so we are bundled up in pajamas all the day long over here, but I am so looking forward to the warmer weather, though I consider myself a gray sky, gloomy weather kinda gal. I think all the gardening has me dreaming up warm days in a lovely hammock sipping on some lemonade. Okay, maybe not lemonade cause that doesn't sound too good to me right now, but I will definitely be sipping on something good.

I miss seeing Rachel's vintage outfits, since we took a couple weeks off, but I am so excited to see what her and her lovely gang is wearing "over there"!

Making new friends is the wonderful thing about this whole blogosphere! A few months ago, I became friends with Maria the proprietress of Adelaide's Homesewn. I have been a fan of her shop for sometime, but it wasn't until I got this ribbon knit dress that I contacted her to get her professional vintage cleaning advice. She was so helpful and we have become instant blog friends since! Then we schemed up a little collaboration between her shop and "Vintage Here, Vintage There" features.

Rachel and I each chose something from her shop to "borrow", wear, and model. Her lovely shop is full of such beautifully old items! I really love old things and she has no shortage of them! I really do think I was born in the wrong decade (but God knows best right?).
vintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage there
My dress of choice is this 1940's watercolor silk dress (you can buy it too and it would probably ship straight from me to you). The colorway, peter pan collar, and pintucks are just too perfect! I then paired it with a pretty sweater that I recently thrifted and I felt like I could have been an extra in the movie Edge of Love, except you probably wouldn't have seen a Filipina (that's what my ethnicity is in case you ever wondered, though I have never been to the Philippines) in London at that time. I seriously watched that movie, just for the clothes!

I am really loving the girls' haircuts and it seems you all do too! I think Brave's hair especially fits her personality so perfectly! During the day it gets a little frazzled and crazy and I think it looks darn cute and really suits her! Saturday morning she woke me up just to tell me, "Mommy, my bangs are crazy!" And crazy were they indeed, as they were sticking straight up!
vintage here, vintage there
True and Brave fight, but they are the best of friends too. I really hope they just get closer as the years go by and that they get closer to us too!

vintage here, vintage there: handmade edition

vintage here, vintage there

It's handmade for kids month over at Smile and Wave, so Rachel thought it would be fun to incorporate some handmade into our "vintage here, vintage there" for this week and I happily agreed! I haven't done much clothes making for the girls since having Soul, but I definitely do miss it! I was able to whip up a little something for True and Brave and the feeling of accomplishment after sewing a simple garment was just so satisfying. I may challenge myself to make them something once a week. After all, I have
so much fabric that I really need to work to get rid of it, so I better get sewing.

For True, I made her a simple dress from some vintage bed sheets that I have had forever! It has elastic at the top and waist and straps that tie over the shoulders. It took me no more than 45 minutes to make and is such a great style for Spring and Summer. I have many plans to make more just like this.
vintage here, vintage there

Brave was made a cute little skirt that is the easiest peasiest thing to do! I meant to draw directions on how to make it, but I will do that another time. Seriously though, even a beginning sewer could make this with her eyes closed!
vintage here, vintage there
To make an otherwise simple skirt a little more pretty, I just hand stitched on a vintage crocheted doily. It added the right amount of pretty!

I know these outfits are a bit more Spring and though it is still freezing in most places, the warmer weather has already started here. As much as I love dressing for the colder weather, I am so ready to wear light floral dresses and sandals. Lately, my mood has been much more 70's, though that typically isn't my era of choice. I am coveting some pretty flares like this or this, but I am getting an itching to attempt to make my own. How hard could it be, right?! Just have to find the right denim first.
vintage here, vintage there
We were going to go outside to take some pictures of the girls in their mama-made dress, but the dresses were so light and airy that it seemed more fitting for jumping on the bed. I don't know, that is just the feeling I got, so that is what we did! Or maybe I was too lazy to go outside...
vintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage therevintage here, vintage there
Brave was having the most fun and was the hardest one to tell to settle down (can you tell?), but there is just something about jumping on a bed that is so magical, right? Well, as long as no one bumps their head!

on me: skirt, vintage (my mom's when she was younger). shirt, target. necklace, handmade by me last year.
on True: dress, vintage fabric made by me.
on Brave: shirt, kohls. skirt, made by me.

Little Soulie was napping when all the jumping on the bed was going on, but here she is wearing a little mama made top that was sewn for her even before she was born! Of course, I didn't want to leave my baby out of this post.
vintage here, vintage there
on Soul: top, made by mama. leggings, target.

It is so fun having three little girls to sew for and dress up! It is like playing dolls, but they are so big and so much cuter and fun (well, with a bit of disobedience added in for extra measure). I am definitely going to put more clothes sewing time in my schedule, well, if I can find some time in my schedule. It is funny, cause if you don't have kids, you think "Oh wow! She gets to stay home all day and have fun sewing, playing, baking, and blogging. That is so dreamy!" What you don't see is all the diaper changing/potty making, tantrum throwing, time out putting, peacekeeping, housekeeping, mounds of clothes cleaning, dishes washing, constant crumb sweeping, and so on and so on. Despite all that, staying home is a bit dreamy, with all my mommy meltdowns and all!

my fave places to buy new fabric: reprodepot, joann's, sew mama sew, purl soho

Head "over there" and see what Rachel whipped out for the always adorable Ruby! Rachel was also one of Artful Blogging featured bloggers, so you will want to pick up your copy and read all about it! Thank you Rachel for this little handmade challenge, it made me miss sewing clothes for my girls and I definitely see a lot more of it in the near future!
