some introductions

This first week of November was definitely a fun one and November can only get better, especially since Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I love me some turkey and some pumpkin pie, well, I love pumpkin anything. Uh-oh! I feel a new craving coming on...

Also, I get to start off this month with my three new toys. I think one you already met, which is my Blackbird Fly (thanks to my Benny), and now meet Holga (thanks to my parents and baby sister) and mini Diana (thanks to my other sister). I can hardly wait to get to know them better.
my new friends
This plastic toy camera business can get pretty addicting. I love it!

And the winner of the happy unbirthday to you giveaway is...
winner
Congratulations Lina!!! I hope you enjoy the camera! Polaroids are just the best! Thank you to everyone who entered and for all your lovely suggestions! I am still going through them to help me figure out what to eat. You all eat such gourmet food and I am happy to hear everyone is contently indulging in this season's fruits and vegetables! Yum! Yum!

Be sure to come back tomorrow as I have a new sponsor to introduce, other than that, have a loveliest of weekends!!!

p.s. If you have entered in one of the previous sponsor giveaways, please check that post to see if you have won. Then, send me an email with your address. I still have prizes that have not been claimed! Oh and this coming week is my last week for the shop, but I will put up some new things next week. Though, after next Friday the only things that will remain the shop will be ready made items.

for los angeles locals (or if you want to drive or fly here)

You may remember our "More 'Stashin' Fun Birthday" we had for Ben awhile ago and our little trip to the Skirball for the Noah's Ark exhibit as part of the day's surprise. We absolutely loved that exhibit and the girls had so much fun running around and playing with all the interactive goodies that we can hardly wait to go back for another run around the place!

(photo taken by Grant Muford courtesy of Skirball Cultural Center)

Now, thanks to Skirball and their generosity, I am able to offer one of my lucky readers some passes to take your family to this wonderful interactive exhibit. Seriously, how cool is that?!! I guarantee that your family will have a jolly good time and that there will be lots of good memories to be made.

How to enter:
1. Leave me a comment telling me what you imagine yourself doing if you were on Noah's ark.
2. Leave me a way to reach you via a link to your blog or email.

Easy peasy, right? The giveaway will end on Saturday, September 19th at 8AM PST. I will announce the winner the following Monday morning. I guess this kinda restricts the passes to locals, but if you want to fly or drive here for the exhibit, by all means, go ahead. It is definitely worth it.

Skirball is also hosting another wonderful event, which is a free screening of the film Coco Avant Chanel with Audrey Tautou on Wednesday, September 23 from 7:30-9:30 in the evening. The screening is free, but if you wish to attend, you must be a Skirball Facebook Fan and RSVP on the Facebook event.

I am definitely going to this with some of my girlfriends and I think it would be fun to meet another bunch of you there. We won't be chatting during the film, but it would be nice to meet and greet each other before and after. If you sign up, let me know!

i am sure you've seen it around

Before I got pregnant this time around I wanted a bike and rollerblades. Then, I got pregnant and all that changed. I don't think my belly on a bike or rollerblades would go well together. Therefore once this baby pops out, I want this to throw all my kids in...
Madsen Cycles Cargo Bikes
I think that would be lots of fun. The rollerblades could come later. This would definitely be a fun "just because" package to get. Don't you agree?

Speaking of "just because" packages, the first "just because" package receiver is Katherine from Paper Pocket.

Katherine- send me an email with your address.

I don't know how to pick from subscribers (any ideas?), so make sure you are a follower to get your chance to get a "just because" package. Also, check back this weekend as I will be introducing Cakies newest sponsor and a giveaway.

lovely package exchange

I finally sent out my lovely exchange package for my partner, Fallon, and it is finally in her hands. I must say that I had a lot of fun putting it together. There was a little theme, can you tell? Maybe not from all the goodies, but definitely from the packaging as I think it all came together quite nicely.
the goodies
(tea towel, Mr. PS; crocheted tea cup, chet and dot; fabric necklace, cakies; ring, wildplum jewelry)

Everything was secretly tucked in different places with clues to what may be inside...

care for some tea?
I hope Fallon enjoyed her tea as much as I enjoyed brewing it. Anyone care for some tea?

Exchanges and giveaways are always such a delight to be a part of and after perusing some of my good reads yesterday, I came across some fantastic giveaways you definitely want to be part of...

- Miko Design is having a creative little contest. All have to do is draw a doll (clothes and all) that you would like, then if you are chosen, she will make the doll for you! How wonderful is that?!!
- Whatsoever Things are Beautiful has a few things up for grabs, one of which will be this custom Cakies crown just for some little child's dreaming endeavors. We all like to dream right?
- Can I win this please? Check it out.

So hop on over to those places and enter away... enjoy your weekend everyone!!!

polaroid tuesday: week thirty-five

I love loads of color, but I think you all already know that.
week thirty-five
Though, lots of color and thread make me exceptionally giddy.

I am ready to announce the winner of my two year blog-birthday giveaway. Can I have an imaginary drum roll please (ta-ta-ta-ta) and the winner is...

Kristy who said,
"Oh, happy blog-birthday! I was hooked on your blog after I read about Brave and True's sweetly decorated rooms. "the other little haven" is still bookmarked in my inspiration folder. Am becoming a follower right this minute."

Congratulations Kristy!!! I will be sending you an email shortly (or just email me with your address).

Thank you for everyone who entered. I am going to start my "just because" package next week, so be sure to become a follower. I am not sure how to see who subscribes via google reader, so I don't know how to pick that way (any suggestions?). Also, Ben thinks I should give away a polaroid once a month, but then I don't have that many polaroid cameras, so I will definitely be on a lookout for more to share more with you. But I will definitely be doing another polaroid giveaway sometime! Promise.

Hooray for polaroids!!!

my little picasso

Or should I say my little Picassa?
picasso-picassa

murky waters
True enjoys painting and drawing so much, but I guess what almost-3-year-old wouldn't?!! I think my True is quite an artist.

Just in case anyone was planning meeting me (and my friend) today at Cafe de Leche, I have to cancel because my Brave is sick. She has a super high fever of 103.7, the doctor said it is just a cold virus, nevertheless please pray for her. I just hate it when one of my little babes is sick!

That's all for now. Oh wait! I almost forgot to announce the winner of the tweet giveaway! Drumroll please... the winner is (as chosen by the random generator):

Kelly, who wrote...
"I would love this tweet because first, I adore your work. It's always so simple and sweet, but oh-so-meaningful. So I would love to have a bag from you, it'd be such an honor. And secondly, this bag has a gorgeous print - the pink cherry blossoms are my favorite flowers and the birds just compliment these wonderful blossoms. I would be truly thankful and appreciative if I received this bag. :)"

There were two Kellys, so I had to include the winner's comment to distinguish the correct winner. Kelly, please email me your address.

Thank you to all who entered. It seems everyone is in love with Lisa's designs and everyone deserves lots of tweets (I really wish I had more to give)! Seriously, times like these calls for a tweet every once in awhile. Well, I hope your sweety will give that to you on Saturday!

I can hardly wait for Valentine's Day! I like special days...

January 23, 2009

it is time to pick

Everyone had such wonderful ideas that I agonized over which 3 to pick (I am still debating on which 3 as I type this)... Ben couldn't pick either! So True had to do it (well, she helped just a little like posing for the picture)...
vote please
Here are your three options:

1. Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh (from Laura)
2. Woodland... gnomes, toadstools and a deer (from Angela)
3. Octopus... tentacles dangling, shells, seaweed (from Rust and Roses)

You have until next Wednesday, January 28th until midnight PST to get your vote in. Please vote only once, but if you would like to blog about it and link to this post to get more votes in from friends and family, go ahead and do so. The crown idea with the most votes will get turned into a crown and be given to the idea giver. I hope I am making sense...

It really was so hard to narrow it down, but I have to share my other favorites that almost made it:
- Parisian theme, whom had a few idea contributors, which also made it hard to pick this one, but I would so love to do this crown! I am thinking I might, so that my girls will have a new one sitting on their shelf.
- Frida Kahlo inspired crown (from Miko Design).
- Third Eye... this would have funny (from Amy).
Oh and there were so many more! Really, the list could go on...

Thank you for everyone for sharing your thoughts and ideas. I loved reading each one. You are all some really creative folk!!!

Have a wonderful and creative-filled weekend... and happy voting!!!

a new old thing

On one of our recent flea marketing excursions we came across this big, lovely, old, super rusty wire basket from France and in it was a nice colorful collection of vintage children's bocce balls...
new old things i love
I must say I fell in love with this piece of art rather quickly and claimed it to be mine before anyone else could. No hesitation. It was just too cool to pass up.

On another note, I am a bit bummed that my camera froze on me today (I still highly recommend Nikon). This is quite a tragedy as my camera has become an extension of my arm, so the fact that I have to send part of my arm in to get fixed and won't get it back for a few weeks is quite disheartening. I guess it will be back to my point and shoot for just a bit. Good thing, I have my polaroids, but I am getting low on film... oh well, here's to a point and shoot few weeks!!!

Don't forget the contest!!! You could win a crown...

no worries

I haven't forgotten the giveaway. It just has been a busy, busy morning... will post the winner shortly.

I wonder how many of you have been checking back all morning...

Okay, so I am so, so sorry. Today, has been quite busy and I have messes everywhere that is in dire need for me to clean it up, but I thought I ought not keep the suspense any longer. After all, I did the random generator thingy at 6 this morning PST, but I just didn't have time to blog about it. Plus, my little girls, were a bit high maintenance today!

Okay, now I freaked when I did this because 1) I forgot to replace "anonymous" with the correct names on the list, so what if it picked out "anonymous," then I would be screwed 2) What if it pulled up a name, but there are two people with the same name... 3) I really wanted everyone to win... really! I feel bad that I couldn't make 90 or so bags, but if I did I would have no life, also if that were the case, the little babes would be without their mama. Well, that just couldn't happen.

So the winner is...
Now, just my luck, when I checked there were two Jens that entered, but thank goodness only one Jen (with a double N). Congratulations Jenn!!! She also has a pretty cool blog, Ambrosia Girl, with some great design, so go check her out...

Thank you to all who entered. I will be making my rounds (I have already started) checking out your blog and the links you sent me. I love everything I have seen thus far. There are a lot of people out there who are just so wildly talented! I am glad to be part of this little community.

So I still have more vintage tablecloths, so I will be making more bags (and if your lucky, another bag giveaway). I may put some similar ones up in the shop as once in awhile items or if anyone is interested (meaning, wants one really badly) just email me or leave me a comment and we could figure something out.

Thanks again... and I hope you come back (I really might just giveaway another)!!!

Free People (and a bag giveaway)

So do you remember my Free People inspired bag? Well, because of that bag I had the pleasure of being found by Free People (thanks Heather!). I worked for them to develop instructions on how to re-create the bag and am so honored to be interviewed by them and featured as their first featured craft blogger.

Now, if you read my blog consistently, you know my love for Free People, particularly the Urban Outfitters Co. as a whole! I love Urban, Free People, and Anthropologie... all of those places rock!!!
Also, with their feature and this post, I am giving away the bag (pictured above) that I made while writing the instructions. The bag is made of a vintage tablecloth on the outside, Amy Butler fabric on the inside and with scraps of fabric to make the braided handles, which are my favorite part of the bag.

To be entered, just leave a comment on this post including the following items:
1. Your favorite crafter/craft site (I love learning about more inspiring people.)
2. Your favorite item in my shop
3. Your email address, so I could contact you should you win.
*Those overseas are welcome to join in.

Then, a week from now, the morning of Friday, October 3rd, I will randomly pick a winner!

So, if you want to learn more about me, learn how to make the bag, and just check out another cool blog... hope on over to Free People's blog (and do some shopping on their site while your at it)!!!

Thank you Free People for this wonderful opportunity! You are so inspiring and your site, clothes, and blog continue to give me inspiration!!!

***UPDATE***
More excitement because all those who subscribe to Free People emails (including me) just received this one...
We really are excited over here and as my friend Krystin put it, we think it's "rad, rad, rad"!!!

Good luck everyone!!!

***I just did a minor shop update and included is once in awhile items, more to come***
Once in awhile items are sold out, there will be some coming again, keep checking back! Thanks everyone!!!
