reading together

This week I actually spent a bit more time reading. I love reading, but never really do so because with three little ones there is just so much to do! In light of my recent meltdown and my mom's reminder to put God first, I started this book to help me and also picked up this fictional book (a series I read throughout middle & high school, but never realized it went onto college years until just recently) just for fun! There is never a dull week for in our house as this week has been especially eventful! I have enjoyed the quiet moments I get to just lay in bed and read.

As soon as I put the two youngest ones to nap, I grabbed my book and I had True grab her own stash and we laid next to each other on my bed, with our own vintage afghans on our laps, and quietly read. Well, she wasn't so quiet and it was more like her making up stories, but it works!

It was a sweet little time of being comfy, cozy together with our books! Then after a bit of time being bookworms, we went a crafting to make Brave her own quirky doll too and I will be sure to share that soon, but it is already getting lots of love and they have already used them to put together a few shows just for me and Soulie to watch! Them enjoying them so much, makes me want to go into a doll making frenzy!!!

I was totally a doll girl when I was kid. I had so many different types, especially Barbies galore! I didn't start loving to read until middle school when I discovered all those scary R.L. Stine books, but right after that I was hooked on reading. I love me a good scare! How about you? Did you love dolls and reading as a kid?

  1. I love the idea of reading WITH my 4 year old. Perfect solution for quiet time, and me needing to have some reading time for myself.

  5. I was a huge reader as a kid. Book reading has fallen by the wayside in recent years. I just started reading more recently, and am really happy I'm doing it. Paperback swap is my new favorite site!

  6. Reading was my world! And if I'm ever having a bad day, I remind myself that I have two little girls who adore books so I must be doing something right =) And R.L. Stine was one of my favorites! It started with The Babysitter series and then I just couldn't stop. I have neat little stack of his books I just can't part with. I insist to my husband our girls will read them one day.

  7. Are you kidding! I loved both dolls AND reading as a kid. I still love reading and when my 8 year old niece comes to spend the summers with me - I'm reminded of absolutely how much fun there's to be had playing with her doll collection. I'm intrigued by the imagination of a child - so it's doubly fun for me.

Love that you took some time out for yourself to read. One of my goals last year was to read more (for pure pleasure) and I'm still working on that one...

  9. I've always loved reading (and dolls) and this makes me nostalgic for the series I read as a kid: Sweet Valley High, Sunset Island, and of course, the Babysitters' Club. :)

  10. I remember one of my favorite gifts when I was about 10 was a clip-on light that I clipped onto my headboard and it had a little dial switch on the cord to turn it on and off. I was set. I was a night owl, and still am, so I would read late into the night with my little light. I still love me a good read. I really should do it more often.

  11. I recently read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers - a modern version of the story of Hosea and it is brilliant. I highly recommend this book to you and probably like me you will not be able to put it down. Makes you truly value God's love and forgiveness. I don't remember reading much when I was a child but thoroughly enjoy reading now.

  12. I was a huge reader of mystery stories, anything with drama i got my hands on. You also reminded me of my Grammy who made lots of dolls clothing and dolls and cushions with me. I sometimes feel like there is not enough time to spend with my kids. How do you do it????

This weekend I plan to spend the morning with my kids reading and painting.

    Have a great weekend xx

  18. Loved dolls...despised reading...didn't begin to enjoy reading until after college. I finally realized that I was always just trying to read the wrong types of books...just can't do fiction. I LOVE personal growth/educational books!

  20. Thanks for getting my daughter hooked on the Christy Miller Series!! I am a book girl and a doll girl... always will be! I was just thinking about you and remembering when my little sisters needed naps, Mom would make me be quiet too and I'd look at books, just so she could have a little break! Looks like you figured that out already! ;)
