As soon as I put the two youngest ones to nap, I grabbed my book and I had True grab her own stash and we laid next to each other on my bed, with our own vintage afghans on our laps, and quietly read. Well, she wasn't so quiet and it was more like her making up stories, but it works!
It was a sweet little time of being comfy, cozy together with our books! Then after a bit of time being bookworms, we went a crafting to make Brave her own quirky doll too and I will be sure to share that soon, but it is already getting lots of love and they have already used them to put together a few shows just for me and Soulie to watch! Them enjoying them so much, makes me want to go into a doll making frenzy!!!
I was totally a doll girl when I was kid. I had so many different types, especially Barbies galore! I didn't start loving to read until middle school when I discovered all those scary R.L. Stine books, but right after that I was hooked on reading. I love me a good scare! How about you? Did you love dolls and reading as a kid?
I love the idea of reading WITH my 4 year old. Perfect solution for quiet time, and me needing to have some reading time for myself.
ReplyDeletegood to hear you've found some time for reading! it's just so cozy snuggling up in bed with a good book! i really need to start reading again, i really miss it.
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH! I LOVED R.L. Stine!!! I still remember the one about the ventriloquist doll and the growing goop under the sink....do you remember the Saturday morning show about the books?
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I loved reading RL Stein's Fear Street books. But I totally had to sleep with the light on!
ReplyDeleteI was a huge reader as a kid. Book reading has fallen by the wayside in recent years. I just started reading more recently, and am really happy I'm doing it. Paperback swap is my new favorite site!
ReplyDeleteReading was my world! And if I'm ever having a bad day, I remind myself that I have two little girls who adore books so I must be doing something right =) And R.L. Stine was one of my favorites! It started with The Babysitter series and then I just couldn't stop. I have neat little stack of his books I just can't part with. I insist to my husband our girls will read them one day.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding! I loved both dolls AND reading as a kid. I still love reading and when my 8 year old niece comes to spend the summers with me - I'm reminded of absolutely how much fun there's to be had playing with her doll collection. I'm intrigued by the imagination of a child - so it's doubly fun for me.
ReplyDeleteLove that you took some time out for yourself to read. One of my goals last year was to read more (for pure pleasure) and I'm still working on that one...
hahaha! nothing like christy and todd...
ReplyDeletenow you've got me wanting to reread the series too!
I've always loved reading (and dolls) and this makes me nostalgic for the series I read as a kid: Sweet Valley High, Sunset Island, and of course, the Babysitters' Club. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember one of my favorite gifts when I was about 10 was a clip-on light that I clipped onto my headboard and it had a little dial switch on the cord to turn it on and off. I was set. I was a night owl, and still am, so I would read late into the night with my little light. I still love me a good read. I really should do it more often.
ReplyDeleteI recently read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers - a modern version of the story of Hosea and it is brilliant. I highly recommend this book to you and probably like me you will not be able to put it down. Makes you truly value God's love and forgiveness. I don't remember reading much when I was a child but thoroughly enjoy reading now.
ReplyDeleteI was a huge reader of mystery stories, anything with drama i got my hands on. You also reminded me of my Grammy who made lots of dolls clothing and dolls and cushions with me. I sometimes feel like there is not enough time to spend with my kids. How do you do it????
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I plan to spend the morning with my kids reading and painting.
Have a great weekend xx

ReplyDeleteI LOVE CHRISTY MILLER! :)
ReplyDeletebut you already knew that! :) you're finally reading the college series? :) so it's all about the wedding. :)
Yes! R.L. Stine!!! I only read the Fear Street series though. :) And Babysitters Club.
ReplyDeleteThis past Sunday, I read some of my favorite books too. I love reading, but you're right...it is difficult to fit it in with small children. I'm glad you for some time. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS... i love the christy miller series :) did you know robin jones gunn just made, or a couple years ago, made the katie weldon series, just thought i'd share that with you. i bought most of the books on amazon. but yes, reading is a must for me!
ReplyDeleteLoved dolls...despised reading...didn't begin to enjoy reading until after college. I finally realized that I was always just trying to read the wrong types of books...just can't do fiction. I LOVE personal growth/educational books!
ReplyDeletereading yes, especially once i hit high school. loved barbies too as a kid, Zoe on the other hand never got into dolls and especially did not like barbies. goes to show we all have are individual likes and dislikes. she loves reading, and we love reading together. at the moment our goal is to read the bible in a year! excited about that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting my daughter hooked on the Christy Miller Series!! I am a book girl and a doll girl... always will be! I was just thinking about you and remembering when my little sisters needed naps, Mom would make me be quiet too and I'd look at books, just so she could have a little break! Looks like you figured that out already! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am a reader like you but I agree never have time for it anymore. I cannot wait until I can share my passion with my little girl. I also love that they love dolls hahaha I liked them too when I was younger not so much barbies but the soft ones!
