first fruits and huneybirds

The veggie garden is growing and at a fast rate. We have some basil inside the beds and it is starting to take over! I need to either make pesto fast or give some away, otherwise, we are gonna make headlines as "Family Attacked by the Fast Growing Basil!" We have enjoyed a bit of things here and there as they sprout up, but True is especially loving the bell peppers. She loves bell peppers morning, noon, and night. We definitely trained her right.

Another sweet thing in our house is this pair of huneybirds.

One of my good friends, Frances, gave True these two sweet huneybirds from this cool shop. Then, she made a perfect little felt house to store the huneybirds. For sure the tiny duo will never leave us, unlike our other huneybird friends. The first thing True did when she came home with the birds was perch them right above her kitchen shelf. I think it is the perfect thing to look at as you (play) cook.

p.s. Anyone want some basil?

  3. So cute! I am surely missing my garden this summer. And yes I would love some basil, but I don't think it would travel well. But thanks for the offer. ;)

  4. LOVE THIS! Hummingbirds play a significant role in my life. They remind me of my grandmother that has passed. When I saw these cute "huneybirds" and their nest, I almost fell off my chair! Seriously, what a cute idea! I'm also in love with the little play kitchen in your photo Ruby! Where oh where did you find that (if you don't mind sharing)? I've been searching for a nice wooden kitchen for my daughter. -We're also overflowing with Basil at our home too! It must be something in the air ;)

  5. i'll take just about any fresh produce from just about anyone's garden! in fact, tonight's pasta sauce is filled with tomatoes, corn, and shredded zucchini and summer squash straight from the neighbor's bounty...mmm, mmm good.

but the reason i really wanted to comment is because *as soon* as i laid eyes on the huneybirds, i knew just where they came from....i got a very similar green one as a Christmas ornament from my hubby this past year <3 <3 <3 i etsy all the time, but he actually got on and registered his own account, for the sole purpose of buying me one of bird nerd's lovely, whimsical creations. gush, gush, i love that guy <3
