CARRYING GLOW

mommy and babymommy and babymommy and babymommy and baby
I am most definitely a babywearer. It helps free up the hands and to be honest, I think it is really cute too! I love seeing mamas wearing their babies. I bought this particular sling before True was even born, and Ben has his own in black (the ring sling in this post is another type I like to wear). Glow sits nice and comfy inside. Her legs are crossed and kind of forward. She is cozy inside just like she was when she was in my womb.

With toting around four girls out and about, I am almost always wearing Glow. It is just much easier that way. Plus, I love having her close and cuddly next to me and hearing all her cute little coos. It always put a smile on my face.

If you are a mama, do you have a favorite type of carrier to wear baby?

What I'm wearing... shirt, thrifted. skirt, vintage. necklace, homako. sling, mama's milk. cinnamon shoe-gar wedge c/o modcloth (my wedge is out of stock, but this isn't and is adorably cute and the same brand!).

  1. I loved my stretchy wrap for when my son was little but little didn't last long. My kiddos hit 15 lbs by 2 months old. My go to carrier is my ERGO and I LOVE it!! Since he started walking I haven't used it much, time to start planning for #3 so I can babywear again. :)

  4. I have huge babies - and have tried a few different types. The best one that worked for the biggest (11lb 10 at birth!!) was a long long piece of fabric all tied up like how african mamas carry their bubbas. (Looks tricky but it's not!)
Baby wearing is the only way to go in my opinion- for many reasons but the main one because I believe it makes the babies trust and feel safe!
Your girls are so cute - congratulations!

  5. I LOVE baby wearing! I can't tell you the name of the sling it was that long ago but when my son was 6mths old we travelled Europe for 3 weeks and oh my word!! It freed up our hands, kept baby warm (we live in Australia and froze our butts off in Paris!) and actually kept us really warm too. It was bliss. Best purchase for a holiday EVER!! xxx

  6. Glow is beautiful. I love that last picture of her. As for babywearing, I swear it is the only way to get thru the day! With baby #2, I got an Ergo and love it. I love how with the infant insert, she feels so close to me.

  7. Well it really looks so cute see mother carrying their babies. I also carried and carry my babies, I have made myself a mei tai carrier, and I like it a lot. But I think it's more difficult to handle my little girl when she got any problem with carrying her brother. So I just do it when someone is with me or when I know she wants to sleep in the buggy! How is it possible for you to cower or blend down with carrying Glow? I really got problems with that.

    Love,
    Penny

  8. Love it! We had an ERGO with #1 and still use it now she's 18 months and it will definitely get a workout with bub #2 due in June! :)
Love these slings... and might try to make a moby style wrap this time too!

  9. Love these pics. <3

I used a moby and hotsling a lot with my first son but eventually started aching as he got bigger (a pound a week until he had over doubled his birth weight). So I made a soft structure carrier with ties, which I think is a super cute style, but with my second son I caved and bought carriers that are a bit easier to put on and off but still put the weight on my hips. So I have a gray boba and a galaxy print ergo so I can carry one boy in front and one in back for quick trips when I really don't want to chase a toddler around. They are so much calmer being carried than on the ground, and they squirm so much less than when just in arms!

  11. I'm addicted to my ergo carrier. I almost never wore my first baby but second time around it's the only way we get anywhere! I don't think my daughter has been in a pram for longer than 5 minutes. It's just so much easier to have my hands free for chasing my toddler. I always felt like the softer baby carriers (like the one you're wearing here) weren't secure enough. I mean, obviously they are and I see heaps of mums using them, but I always end up with one hand under my baby's butt - I feel like I can't trust it!

  12. Hi Rubyellen, congrats on your new baby girl! I have a pupsik pouch sling (from Singapore) which is amazing. I used it with my 5 yr old at times and it held up great. Pupsik studio has loads of great stuff for girls. You might wanna have a look.

  13. I love baby wearing. I use a ring sling, which I really like, but I'm not in love with it. Now that my babe is bigger (5 months, 15 lbs.), she comes into contact with the ring and I don't like the long tail that hangs down (I've tied mine up with a rubber band). The sling you use looks so much softer and comfier than mine. I wish I had known about this type before I bought my ring sling!

  17. These pictures just make my heart melt. I love carrying around Judah, he is almost 14 months now but he can still fit comfortably in my Maya wrap ;-)

  18. I used to carry my daughter in a front back pack type carrier. It was very convenient but wasn't very good on my back. I wanted to get a lovely sling like the one in your photo but after I was given my carrier as a gift I just made do. It was nice though having her so close to me, she always loved it the most.
P.S. I featured a snippet of your blog in one of my posts today and linked it back to you.

  19. Is your sling the adjustable or non-adjustable? Trying to figure which one would be best for us. Thanks!

  20. So nice to hear about other people and small babies. Both my boys are teeny- tiny. My oldest is 19 months old and maybe 20lbs soaking wet. LOL Family always gives me grief but that's just how he's built. I really like the Moby and Ergo for both the boys (19 months and 5 months).

  22. I have an Ergo, but my daughter seems super uncomfortable in it. My husband bought this cheap little Chicco carrier to use when she was little and I mostly carried her around in that. I think a sling would have worked out better, but at 15 pounds now I think she is a little too big to buy one. Definitely for the next one!

  23. Haha she is so cute with her little head peeking out the top!

  24. I have one like you. But I also like the Mei Tai. Cause it is easier to but them on the back when they get older.

  25. Those little cheeks of hers melt my heart!

  26. I love a Moby or HotSling when they are little, but once they get bigger (say 10 to 12 months) I throw them in a Kelty hiking child-carrier.

    Unconventional? Yes!
    Less backaches? Yes!

  27. my first loved carriers. mostly i used a pouch style - starsling. but also had a long piece of material i'd wrap him up in. I was so sad when my second was born with a super independent streak "let me watch the world on my own" she'd pretty much scream. she at almost 4 is still like that. Luckily my third likes my carriers (i love my Beco). Anyone else had a baby that hates babywearing? I think it's good to remember that not all babies may like it.

  28. yip, ergo-ing it up here. not too keen on regular slings as I find them uncomfortable on my back but the ergo is awesome. the wee one is only one month but I jist use the infant insert.

  29. I've tried SO many different sling (even after you showed me how to "use" it)!! I have not tried ergo yet as it was little expensive but after reading the reviews, perhaps I might have to try it out now!! =)

  30. Thanks so much! I am definitely ordering one of them!

    LOVE your blog BTW :)

  31. jade- oh! that is big! well, compared to my girls. ;)

ln- i will teach you again! you can do it! but maybe the ergo might be a good option. everyone here is advocating it!

  32. I love the moby. When my little one weighed a lot less than she does now (she weighs 20 ibs now) I carried her in the moby all day, every day. It was the best! I could take her anywhere. I could go to Costco, I could go to my son's soccer game. I was even able to go to one of the mommy movies. It was wonderful!

  33. Moby and Ergo. The Moby for when they are small (newborn to 6 months) then the Ergo from then on. I used the Ergo for me daughter until she was 2 and a half. My 18 month old son now rides in the same Ergo. Definitely worth the money!

  34. I used a Moby with my first, then with my 2nd discovered the Baby K'Tan which is SO MUCH BETTER! It's like 2 slings together that X over your back with a sash for extra support/safety. So much easier because you don't have to wrap, and more comfortable than a traditional sling because it distributes the weight. My baby is 10mos, 19# and just last week I wore him ALL DAY around NYC. My husband loves it too. He did not have the patience for the Moby.

  35. I didn't wear my other three very much but am planning to with this one! I wish I had with my last two because they were so fussy and I'm sure it would have helped.

I just ordered a Mamma's Milk Sling in Milk Chocolate. Can't wait to try it out when the baby arrives. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

I have a Baby Bjorn Sport (with back support) and it worked awesome for my husband - and I liked it, too, but I'm short (5'1", with a short torso) so I feel like it never fit as well as it could have on me. But my husband really liked it.

  36. I wish they made the quality and useable slings back when I had my babies (they are 30 - 19) My youngest was very sensitive to florescent lights and I usually ended up nursing her while grocery shopping to calm her (hard to push a cart and shop while nursing) it would have made my life a little easier...
