polaroid tuesday: week nine & ten

week 9 & 10

week 9 & 10
Last week was skipped cause I was sick, so I make it up with two for this week.

I love each and everyone one of them from head to toe...

P.S. Here is something funny I came across randomly on the internet... this discussion forum had some things to say about my kids' names. Whatever. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. We love their names and that is all that matters. Anyways, no matter what the name, kids will find a way to make fun of another kid's name.

Case in point, somehow when I was little, the boys I know managed to take my name, which is a pretty normal name, and mock it by calling me "to be a wiener" cause they figured "to be" sounds like Ruby. It was based on some commercial whose slogan was "to be a winner." Whatever the name, kids will find a way to mock it. Kids are just ruthless like that. So what if my Brave is a little 'fraidy cat sometimes?! She is you know, but she will survive. I thought that forum was too funny! To each their own... and just in case you didn't know, there are actual meanings behind their names. We didn't just give them random word names.

That was a long p.s.!

  1. You have such beautiful girls with beautiful names. It was really important to use, when naming our kids, to have names with strong, significant meanings. I can't wait to see what you name #4 because I know it will be awesome!

And, that forum, seriously? That is awful. I can't believe someone would do/say something like that.

  2. rude - your girls names are perfect and so special...seriously though my husbands name is Chris and he was called *piss* as a kid and you can't get much more common than that right? Like you said kids will find someway to tease. I myself can not wait to see what you and Ben cook up for number fours name it's going to be awesome I am so sure!!

  3. These names are so beautiful, don't worry about the faceless talkers on internet.

As you said, kids will pick up any name - I was teased too! My name is Sini, it's a name in finnish what comes from the color blue. So I was teased.a lot. and because of my hobbies too, anything would have been the reason.

I do understand the phase when kids tease each other, but adults.. that's just stupid.

Have a great week with your beautiful family!

  4. The only dumb comments i've ever heard about my 4 children's names (which are old fashioned Irish names, to match our surname, hardly crazy!!) have been from my siblings!! How dumb is that, adults??!! Go figure, you can completely love a unique name, my children LOVE their names. Love Posie

  5. i am your silent reader, being pregnant and i LOVE all your children name..Every parents gave their children name with a love and prayer. And i really think It is rude to mock other children name.
Can't wait to see your fourth child ;).

  6. can't believe someone would start a thread just pick on another mom's choices. geez. kind of sad actually. kids aren't the only ones that can be kind of mean :/

you're right, you love your little one's names and that is all that matters. you went with your heart when naming your little ones, which is something to be commended, not mocked.

the name of our little one is less mainstream (olive) and while i was 38 weeks pregnant, someone i knew asked me what i was going to name my baby. i told her and she proceeded to scold me, and tell me that i better not name my baby that, and that she would be teased and taunted and called 'olive oyl.' my feelings were beyond hurt, but after a couple days of thinking and reconsidering, i ended up deciding to stick with olive. my husband was super supportive and i am so glad that we named her what we did. it completely suits here now that she is here and i love her name.

if kids don't have a name that other kids can mock, they will find some other reason! teasing is just something that every kid has to get used to, no matter how 'normal' their name might be.

don't let the haters get you down!!

  7. Adorable pics! I guess cos they're adorable girls. =)

As for the names - I've seen people be so thoughtless and arrogant on forums too. We think we know best, that our opinion is more valid than others...

I know it hurts for people to criticise our names, but no matter what they say, it all comes down to opinion and personal preference.

I'm glad we know a Love who helps us to show patience and forgiveness, that helps too. xo

  8. Didn't their parents teach them that if they don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? And then to refer people to your blog, after that criticism! Don't worry about it, some people are small minded, and have absolutely no imagination! Your children have beautiful names, and you write a beautiful blog. People should have nothing but positive things to say about you!

  9. hilarious. they're lovely names. can't wait to see what no. 4 will be named:)

  10. Your daughters are beautiful and have beautiful names, how special for them to know their parents put such thought and love into naming them.

  11. Oh,wow,I can't believe somebody (an adult) would actually go on a forum and insult somebody's children's names....maybe they were the type of person that teased others as a kid.I love your children's names...they are so unique (at least for now).If somebody doesn't like something, they should remember the saying,if you have nothing nice to say, shut up! :)If kids aren't teased about their names, they will most likely be teased about something almost at least once in their life.I'm just amazed that she did that!It says a lot about what type of person she is....it's like she's teasing your kids already...ugh!Unfortunately some people don't have manners and we just have to ignore them.Your girls will probably live up to their beautiful names,so that is something nice to think about. :)

  12. Wow, I cannot believe people. Do they not have anything better to do with their time?

however I will say when I first discovered your blog ( which I really love, I am a daily reader ) one of the things I loved was your childrens names. I think they are strong beautiful names and names you dont hear everyday which makes them that much better. I can't wait to hear the name you guys choose for the new addition, but only because I know it will be an amazing one.

    haters gon' hate haha.

  13. i LOVE your girls' names. I hope that I can choose such sweet and meaningful names when my children come!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ok, I got really defensive for you when I was reading that forum, then I realized I should relax because if it doesn't bother you then me being a person who doesn't even know you, should calm down :) Your girls names are beautiful and have wonderful meanings. (but my kids are named after guitars so that forum would probably be hating on me too)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ack. I bet the original poster wishes she had your originality. And you thought hard about the meaning of their names. Far more valuable in my opinion. I'd not bother about them, whoever they are. Go be with your lovely girls.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The fact that someone dedicated an entire forum post to a stranger's kids' names is so disturbing to me. Really? You had no better way to spend your the 5 minutes it took you to write that post?

I think their names are lovely and unique.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That forum blows my mind. There are a lot of overly used popular names that I don't care to ever hear again but, never would I start a forum ripping on it and then refer people to the source with that attitude. Your girls are so adorable and seem to fit their unique names! It's not as if you named them Door Hinge, Notepad, and Thumb Tack! Unique Momma and Papi will of course have unique little babes. I grew up teased by my last name, which I couldn't control, and I learned to either laugh or call them out on an inaccurate fact. Wit and charm always beats the bullies!

    ReplyDelete
  18. WOW! I really can't believe someone would come up with an entire post on this. The girl's names are beautiful just like they are and their mama. Having children with "different" names I know the feeling. But none of my boys would have a better life being a John, Mike, or Chris. My kids' names have become a part of who they are and I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't wait to hear the new little one's name!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think her name must be Mary and she is jealous. My name is Tiffany and I always wished for fun unique name. There aren't too many little tiffanys running around these days, but in the height of the 80's, there were! But they were always blonde and I was brunette. I have a friend at church with the last name Bean. Her daughters names are Navy, Boston, and Seven Danger (so she can say danger is my middle name!) I love it. We need more creativity, uniqueness and fun in life. I am happy your children have wonderful, meaningful names instead of naming them the next hottest thing. People are intimidated by people who follow their hearts.

  20. love how you frame the pics! ahh i need a polaroid!!

  21. and it's so silly that she thinks you won't catch it. anyone who uses sitetracking knows where the traffic comes from. is that how you found out about it?

    silly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow... she sounds like a very insecure person! NOT someone I would ever be friends with. We love creativity and uniqueness around here! Our children were named after friends of ours who we love and adore and look up to! Caroline just picked out her Confirmation name (Cecilia)... naming people after Saints who you admire and other character traits goes way, way back. This woman is ill-informed.

  23. I am in disbelief. How rude! Your girls names are beautiful. This topic annoys me because everyone has the right to name their kids what they see fit. My sons name Vincent and there are plenty of people who had a huge problem with that...and people who already make fun of it (he is only 2 for crying out loud). But, you are right, coming from a girl named Ivy, people, kids will always find a way to make fun of someones name and we all, well some of us ;), come out just fine in the end. Of course I was Poison Ivy, Ivy league, stay away from her she will make you itch. Oh, childhood!....and parenthood!

I wish my hubster had been on board with some of my more unusual names,I LOVE your names and cannot wait to see what baby number four is called because i was so happy when I saw your post about soulie:0)
I was going to leave a snarky comment to them but then i remembered my mantra, that's there karma, how I react is mine,so i closed the page:0)

  26. It's so easy to hide behind a computer screen and make fun of someone. I love your babies names and know they will cherish them when they grow older.
    xo.

  27. My parents gave me the insanely popular name, Amanda. I love it now, but growing up I absolutely hated it because there were so many other girls with the same name and I wanted to be original. (Plus kids found a way to make fun of that name, too. A-man-duhh. lol.) I would have loved a name like the ones you gave your girls. They are beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  28. That discussion forum is the rudest thing I've ever seen. I'm glad you can shake it off.

My son is Milo and my daughter is Lucca. Both are definitely real names and we get comments all the time. But I wouldn't trade their names for the world. They're my little chickens, I'll name them as I please.

My name is Bridget and I got Bridget the Midget, even though I was 5'8" by the end of junior high. You're right, kids will make nicknames out of anything.

  29. I was just reading an article about how women can be so mean to each other and how we can cut it out! Such a ridiculous waste of time to come down on your beautiful girls names!

I find so much encouragement in your posts and so appreciate your heart and the heart behind your girls' names. Can't wait to hear about number four! Even hearing about all your preggo illness, you are making me want another one and my sweetie is only 7 months... :)

  30. what is wrong with this person? It's none of her business!! I LOVE your girl's names. They are so unique and beautiful!! I am looking forward to what you will pick for baby #4!!

  31. Haters gonna hate, right? You go girl ;) I can't wait to see what you name your new little one! Too fun!

    ReplyDelete
  32. seriously, you all are so great!!! i just thought that was forum discussion was soooo funny!!!! i am aware at how "unusual" our children's names are and we have already thought of every joke that will result in it...

when i was pregnant with brave and we were thinking of a name, i would have be rich now for every time someone asked us if we were going to name her "False." True and False. Heard that before tons of times.

then, when we did name her Brave. we knew that she wouldn't always be "brave", but are any of us brave all the time. yeah. i didn't think so. and we knew people would call her "afraid", "scared", etc...

then, we thought of the cheesy lines boys will use with our girls... "you are my True love", "i will brave the edge of the world for you", "you are my Soul mate". haha... we know. the dudes are going to have to get more clever to come up with something we aren't expecting.

i love hearing people opinions, even if they do differ from mine, it really makes this world more interesting. if we were all the same, we would name all our kids the same thing, and that would be quite boring now, wouldn't it?

    thanks for the love friends!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Isn't it funny how we can't condone judgmental behavior without being judgmental?

    ReplyDelete
  34. sheila d.- funny indeed! like i said, variety of opinions make this world such an interesting place! thank God for variety! it creates good discussions.

    ReplyDelete
  35. and no worries, friends. i am by no means insulted by the forum discussion. we were quite aware that the names we chose for our kids wouldn't be popular or wouldn't work with everyone and that it would generate a lot of opinions. to each their own and let's still be nice to the outspoken forum poster!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Holy Toledo! This is ridiculous! I can't believe some one took the time to call you out like that. But more power to you. Your girls are beautiful and so are their names. We also picked a "different" name for our kid, Ami (pronounced Ah-mee; hebrew), and got so much crap about how he would for sure hate us in his teens when people would start calling him "Amy" or some other girl's name. But his name is so fitting and I would not take it back for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  37. HONestly... I just can't believe people! They don't have anything better to do with their time?! The joy of life is that we are ALL individuals and get to make our own decisions and sculpt our lives to our own desires, dreams, hopes and wishes! 'To each his own'is something to be embraced and celebrated! Here's one big YOU GO GIRL for you and one big YOU SUCK to that forum.

  38. Sticks and stones.....

Sadly we live in a world where racism still exists, so you can imagine people still fear uniqueness.

"I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it". - Rev 2:17

  39. Well, you are popular if there are discussions like that!
You know, in Russia every name means something in Greek or Latin, my name means resurection, isn't that cool!? So much better than being named after some fruit or car or animal!
I think the names you have given your kids are great! They give your girls a direction, something to live up to! And the way you seem to raise them, I don't think they will mind!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh and by the way, in Bible everyone named their kids after something so I think you are on the right track! :)

  41. i have a unique and unusual name. My dad's name is Jose and my mom's name is Zenaida. Jo from Jose + Zen from Zenaida = Jozen.

I am thankful to my parents for thinking outside of the box.. and True, Brave, Soul & cakies #4 will be too!

  42. I've been reading your blog for awhile now and at first your girls' names didn't really appeal to me personally, but the more I read your blog, the more the names grew on me and I really love those names now!

My name used to be made fun of too! But luckily I had a nice friend in 2nd grade that punched the boy that made fun of my name. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I LOVE your name choices, for the record. But what I love even more is that you named your daughters something with meaning! Name popularity comes and goes, and I find your choices refreshing. And lovely, and beautiful. And I'm so extremely proud of you for posting this!!! You rock mama!

  44. I have an etsy shop and believe me..I know what happens on those forums..I can't tell you how many times mean things have been said about my daughter's photos from my etsy shop.....ignore them and stay true to yourself!! I love your children's names! My childrens names are Tuesday, Quinn and River!

  46. interesting... can anyone see that discussion on the bump forum as it seems it now has been deleted. oh well!

anastasia- you are so right. people in the bible were given names with meaning. sometimes those names had high standards, but God is there to help with that isn't he?

tang- thank you for your honesty. i figured not everyone loves the name at first, but once you get to know the girls (via blog) and our family, then you understand and learn to love it.

jwgregg- thank you!!! my readers are my fave too!!!

  47. As a teacher, I can say that thought is RIDICULOUS! Gota, Hedda, Sheick, Nydia, Avani, Tenaj (which is his mother's name,Janet, backwards). A small smattering of kids' names in my class... THIS YEAR ALONE. The only people who really make fun of kids names because they judge them? Adults.

    ReplyDelete
  48. melissa jade- now, those are some real creative names! kids make fun cause that is what kids do. and yeah... adults are the one that judge.

    ReplyDelete
  49. to be honest, ben and i aren't fans of every name. we have our preferences and there are certain ones we think are silly, but then again... we know our kids have unusual names too! we don't deny that fact. whatever works for one person, may not work for the next! we are cool with that fact regarding kid names.

    ReplyDelete
  50. wow, people are silly! it's sad, really, that mamas tend to be the hardest on one another. it shocked me after i had my first, to be honest. in my very silly naive mind, i was just enrolled in an elite club filled with women who would give me good advice, help me as much as they could and love on me. it really broke my heart to discover how wrong i actually was! i could go on and on for days about this, so i best shut up. just had to say:) plus, i'm bummed that the forum just up and disappeared. i was in the mood for a good laugh tonight!

(love the blog. can't wait to find out about #4! and sorta amazed with your guts! i had to quit after 2 because WOW i am not cut out to have more kids!)
