for going home

Having a winter baby made me so stuck. I mean, I just wasn't sure what to sew for a winter baby. Brave and True were born in the spring and summer, so little skirts and onesies were all they needed. Though the good thing is that in southern California, the weather isn't quite extreme. Thus, for her going home outfit I just concocted a simple grey wrap shirt that would perfectly layer over onesies and some brown leggings.

Actually, I went crazy making lots of leggings, so I think she will now be plenty ready for the winter.
i kinda went overboard
With all my crazy sewing, Ben kept calling me "nesting freak" in the most loving way of course. I must agree, I went crazy making baby things, but it is called "nesting" isn't it?!!

Then, I had some left over grey linen, so I made her another wrap dress of sorts. All this baby sewing (and nesting) is quite addicting.

Any other ideas of things to make for a winter baby?

  1. Would you post a tutorial for the baby leggings? I would love to make some!
Also, I'm in Louisville, KY so it probably gets a little colder here. But what about some mittens? They could be warm and also keep the little one from scratching her face! Or what about a coat?

  3. Ruby - you need HATS!

And the best tutorial for baby leggings comes from Amanda Soule at Soulemama - turning a man's knit shirt into baby leggings!

  4. Little hats! Don't underestimate the need for hats for newborns, even in a mild climate it still takes a lot of energy for a wee one to maintain her body temperature - energy that could be better put to use growing and thriving.

  5. I was going to say hats...and anything with "feet" in them, since baby socks are so annoying and always slip off!

  7. Two of my best friends are expecting babies and I want so much to knit them little cosy baby sweaters but I know that by the time the babies are here little sweaters won't be very useful. Ooooh to have a little cosy winter baby to cuddle.

  19. Such cute outfits!
She is gonna be ANOTHER beauty!
I love soft soled shoes, and I had summer babies, so I made summer cloth robeez style booties for my last baby. And I have been making them for my older boy too, as well as for myself! There are several people that make them on Etsy although my favorite pattern is from Make Them Yourself, and the woman who does the copyright is Misty M ( something, how horrible of me). They always stay on, and if you want socks to, they KEEP socks on.
Have fun being a nesting QUEEN!

  20. These are so cute - lucky baby! I just had to comment that the attire makes me chuckle, because where I live we are supposed to get nine inches of snow today, so winter clothes here are a whole different story! I was glad that both of my babies were born in the summer so that I didn't have to wrap them in 100 layers before going out!
