True's allergic to peanuts, so instead of peanut butter cookies, we do sunflower butter cookies. This is my take on the Sunflower Butter Cookie. Sunflower butter isn't for everyone. If you would much rather have peanut butter, which I happen to like much better, just substitute the sunflower butter for 1 cup peanut butter and you can add more sugar to the recipe, but I try to lessen it a bit for moderation's sake. Plus, I put in chocolate chips, so I think that is plenty sweet right there. Before I put them in the oven, some I sprinkled with sugar and some I sprinkled with salt. Your choice, do you want savory or sweet? I think I am more a sweet person, but savory is a nice change once in awhile.

The girls ate them up, so I guess I had happy customers. Share me some of your favorite cookie recipes!

  1. That would definitely be the ginger molasses cookies from a super, super cookbook called Quinoa 365,The Everyday Superfood. There are many, many great recipes in it...I usually find a handful of good recipes in a cookbook, but this one is loaded with great recipes that are healthy...including a lot of cookie recipes. Here's the link to it on amazon:

And here is a link to another gret recipe for healthy muffins:

  2. these look delicious!! i'll have to try them :]

  3. It's really, really easy and cheap to make your own sunflower butter... I've used this recipe before and enjoyed it (http://prudentbaby.com/2011/08/entertaining-food/how-to-make-sunbutter-the-best-sunflower-butter-recipe-2/).

    1. yes, no flour! just make sure to let it cool all the way and can break easily, but otherwise yummy!

    2. So this recipe is also gluten free! Right on for the peeps who need more options!

  5. I thought True was allergic to chocolate as well....

    1. she is technically, but we have been introducing it to her slowly and she hasn't been reacting at all. the doctor said as long as we do it slowly, she may outgrow her allergies. it seems to be working!

  6. As a fellow peanut-allergy sufferer, this recipe sounds awesome, I've never heard of sunflower butter before, is it difficult to find?

  7. Rubyellen-Does the cookies freeze well? I wanted to know since I've never used sunflower butter and I'm interested to try your recipe since I'm craving cookies right now!

  8. Kids don't love sunbutter, but come on it's called sunbutter...and its good for you...I plead...maybe this will get them to change their minds. Thanks for the recipe!

  9. Just thought I'd share my favorite recipe- I usually leave out the Hershey's bars and marshmallows and just use chocolate chips and sometimes pecans!

    S’Mores Cookies
    3/4 cup butter — softened
    1/2 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1 cup graham cracker crumbs
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate
1 cup (more or less) of marshmallows (not large style)
2 Hershey Bars, broken into pieces
Beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Blend in egg and vanilla. Add combined flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and (if using) other stuff.
Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets about 3 inches apart.
Bake in pre-heated oven 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 8 minutes. Remove and quickly press marshmallows and chocolate into cookies. Return to oven and cook until done (about 3 or 4 more minutes)

If you're leaving out the marshmallows and chocolate bars, just leave them in for 11 or 12 minutes instead of taking them out. These are perfect because while they may be decadent, they're the perfect mix of salty and sweet. It this tells you anything, I've gotten marriage proposals over them. They're that good. Have fun! :)

  10. We love peanut butter cookies in our house, sunflower butter
might be an interesting twist. I make a mean peanut butter cookie with toffee and pretzels!

  11. Sweet! i never tried sunflower butter but it sounds delightful.

  12. You inspired me! I just made an adaptation of these today for my allergic kiddo. I used almond butter instead of sunflower. I also substituted the sugar and egg for a mashed banana and added 1 tsp baking soda. Flourless, eggless, peanutless, but absolutely delish!

    1. Oh my. This sounds awesome. I'll have to try the mashed banana next round! Thanks! :D

  13. I can't thank you enough!!! My younger son has a peanut allergy so we only use Sunflower butter in the house so this is PERFECT! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  14. I have only just discovered your blog much to my dismay! These look amazing, cannot wait to give them a try! x

  15. I'm going to make these today! My daughter has a peanut allergy so we always have sunbutter in the house (you can usually find it in the grocery store either in the natural foods section or near the peanut butter...). I've contemplated making cookies with it, but was never brave enough. So excited!

  16. Thanks for posting this! You know, I have to say it never entered my mind to substitute peanut butter with sunflower butter ... genius! My daughter has a nut allergy too so this would be a perfect substitute for us ... thanks again!!

  17. My little guy has peanut allergy and I can't wait to try these with my kids!

I commented on Pinterest - I wanted to save this recipe there but it only links back to the photo on Pinterest and not this post. Thought I'd let you know! A few of your photos for recipes are only linked to Pinterest and not to the recipe posts. (They just say 'Uploaded by User' instead of the link back to your blog.)

Thanks for reposting things there so we can save your stuff. I love to save a lot of your great ideas! :)

  18. Hi Ruby! I messaged you on Instagram to ask about the recipe. :)

I tried these with normal Peanut Butter, dark chocolate chunks and coarse brown sugar. They turned out great and not too sweet. My family approves. Thank you! :D

  19. Ohhhhh MY! these look so dangerously GOOD!

  20. Oh I'll have to try! I do sunflower butter cookies but with flour and M & M's.. Theses sound delicious and I like the idea of no flour.
