a little stylist

Lately, True has been getting more and more insistent on what she wants to wear. Sometimes, things are so outrageous that I do make her change, but other times, especially when it comes to her accessories (and hairstyle), I just give up. This is one of those examples...
she styles herselfshe styles herself
I am thinking we are gonna spend today crafting up some fun accessories for her to wear, since this has been her thing of late. I am thinking she would especially love this (kid-sized of course).

Tell me. If you have a little one (or when you were little), do you let them dress themselves? What is the most outrageous thing they (or you) have ever worn?

When I was younger I was a hat girl, especially Blossom style hats (anyone remember that show?). I look back and cringe just a tiny bit! Hey, my mom dressed me (meaning, she would pick out the clothes bought for me, not put them on) until I was in middle school. Love you Mom!

Happy Monday everyone!

  1. She is too cute! I absolutely love that headband. It is on my wish list but I am just not sure if I could pull it off. :)

  2. My daughter has been wearing a basket on her had as a hat lately.
Seriously, I took a picture of her in it this morning.
Almost every morning she insists on wearing it.

  3. I think that is great! She will be creative!

I liked to wear my dad's clothing and wear it oversized, but I was a teenager then.

I think True is inspired by all the creative things She sees an I think she looks soooo cool!

  4. So funny...I have that hair band in my etsy favs! When my girlies were little they loved to wear those red glittery Dorothy shoes...I let them but my hubby always wanted them to change their shoes!

  5. So sweet, little True. When I was young, my Mom stopped dressing me and picking out my clothes when I pretty small. I used to raid she and my Dad's closets to create outfits; my grade 5 through grade 8 school photos are evidence of that. Keep nurturing the creativity, my dear!

  12. Hahah so cute! My older sister tried dressing herself when she was about three and she wore her underwear outside of her pants for a whole day. Luckily my parents didn't let her outside of the house that day. We still joke about it :)

  13. I let my son (6 years old) dress himself as long as we don't have somewhere to go where he needs to be dressed a certain way. He puts some cRaZy outfits together, but I'm fine with it. He prefers colored socks - even with shorts. And I'm talking about Snoopy Christmas socks all. year. long. It really makes me smile.

  14. She is very sweet! A little fashionista in the making. :)

My daughter, Millie, is three and she is terrible at getting dressed! I tend to pick out two different outfits and then let her chose whichever she prefers. This makes her feel like she has a little control over what she wears without giving in to all her demands.

  15. She is just too cute : )

Having her make her own accessories is such a good idea... I wish my mom did it with me! I hope I have a daughter to craft with one day.

  17. As I am reading this, my 2.5 year old is taking a nap wearing an organza and tulle flower girl dress. It was in a hand-me-down bag that we received from her cousin today. I think it's funny and cute when she comes up with her own ensembles. Church on Sunday and places like her mommy and me classes, where she might distract other children with her wacky wardrobe, are the only times I draw the line.

  19. Reminds of the "wee people" for the free people catalog. :) So cute!

Ada is 6 1/2 yrs. old & she LOVES to wear fancy shoes with everything & anything! It's exciting to see their fashion sense develop, but it makes me sad to see she's growing up.

  21. my three year old girl is just like this! except you also has a big brother's wardrobe to cull from as well as her own, so she always comes out of her room in the most outrageously unattractive outfits... my mom always let us "express ourselves" this way, but my husband is not so keen on it. we try to find a happy medium between not crushing their spirits, but making them presentable still! <3

here was a recent pink on red outfit: http://crynfiction.blogspot.com/2010/09/wacky-wednesday-crazy-outfit.html

  23. This made me laugh out loud! She is so cute an confident in her look. I love it. I refused to wear pants untill I was about 10 years old, and I went through a poodle skirt phase.

  24. Awh! SO cute. Who knew sandals + socks could look so adorable?!

My son Sam (3.5) loves to dress himself--and lately, he's been dressing like it's summer (we're in chicago--it's not warm anymore). So I make him go stand outside for a few minutes to see if the outfit fits the season.

My mom let me dress and accessorize as I pleased (as long as it was respectful), and sure there are some funky looking outfits, but I loved making those choices. And I wouldn't change it now, even when I see pictures of myself from (EEK!) middle school....

  26. My 4 year old daughter is very into clothes and accessories too. I love it and encourage it. The most outrageous thing she ever wore was an outfit that didn't match in colors or prints. I let her wear it to school and one of the moms roared with laughter when I dropped her off. It's harmless and I love to shop with her.

  28. ohmygoodness! i LOVED blossom. i wore hats just like her, and those baby doll dresses and leggings!

  29. My soon to be 5 year old is really into doing her own hair...and for whatever reason the messier it is, the more she likes it. Getting her dressed for preschool every morning is a battle since she is so opinionated about what she wears. Luckily, she loves leggings and colorful tights as of late.
