polaroid tuesday: week thirty-three

week thirty-three
Um... yeah. My baby is almost nine months and I just started feeding her baby food.

My reasons for starting a bit late are: 1. I was scared of her losing baby status. 2. I didn't want her poop to change (breastmilk poop smells good to me). 3. If she is my last one, I want her baby-ness to last forever (kinda like #1).

Hey! Don't judge. Plus, if you saw her thighs, you can tell she is well fed.

  1. I held off feeding my babies until 6 months. My son kind of liked food but my daughter...no way, she hated food! At 12 months, she was still ONLY nursing, with the occasional bite of food. No harm. My daughter was a chunker too and I too LOVED the smell of my babies poop, it smelled like macaroni & cheese to me.
Nobody better be hating on you...you're an awesome mom!

  2. Breastfed baby poop always smelled like popcorn to me.

I think if Soul had been ready for solid food she would have let you know. My son was EBF'd until about 6 months. One day we were eating dinner and he was sitting on my husband's lap. As my husband was raising a forkful of food to his mouth, my son grabbed it and pulled it to his own mouth! We took the hint and started fixing him his own plate.

  3. Hahaha. Ruby, you are soooooo funny AND Soul is sooooooo cute! I love chubby babies -- they're my favorite! No judging here! There's nothing wrong with the desire of keeping baby-ness around a tad bit longer. :)

  4. I came across your blog a month ago and it's crazy how much we have in common! Besides being a mommy in socal who loves polaroids, when I was pregnant with our daughter I wanted to name her Soul! Sadly my husband didn't go for it, but I still love the name.
Hope that doesn't sound too stalkerish, lol

ANyway, I didn't start feeding my little girl until she was 7.5 months and now she is a healthy 3 year old, so no worries.

  5. I can totally relate. I didn't feed my daughter any type of food until she was 8 months old. I have to agree that breastfeed poop doesn't smell nearly as bad as their poop once they've had food! Have a great day!

  7. I was always told that breast feeding is the best, because the baby getts all the needed nutriens. She will have enough of all that food in her life.

  8. tooooo cute! I love these shots, they are always so precious! I know what you mean. Our third is also our last and he just turned 1. I can't believe we are no longer counting his age in months and can use years....he's growing up too quickly for mum, but he's thrilled about being able to "play" with his big brothers. Precious moments!

  14. Ruby- breastmilk poo smells good to me too!! I waited til my first was about the age of Soul to feed him baby food too, for the same reasons as you... and he didn't stop breastfeeding until my 2nd one was 3 months old! Breastmilk is great, keep it up! :)

  15. sara- it does look like that type of picture, doesn't it?

  16. I agree that breastmilk poop smells the best. As my daughter eats more solids her poop smells somewhat unappealing.

  17. I'm on board with keeping babies babies for as long as we can! HOWEVER, ANY kind of poop does NOT smell good! *giggle* Such a "mom" thread! :D

I don't think that it's uncommon to wait until your baby is around that age to feed them solid food. You have more people on your side than you think!

Soul is the BEST kind of baby out there...kissable cheeks and thighs that make you want to gnaw on her! :D My Zoe is in the same category! ;)

  20. Wow, that picture is adorable!
I remember not wanting to feed my kids solid foods... one didn't take any until she was 6 months, but my second started diving for our plates at four months old! She still nursed for a year, so all was not lost!

Have fun with your little cutie.

  21. Hi Ruby, I'm in the same boat as you. I have 3 ages 5, 2 and 3 months.
I can't imagine that my little one is my last baby, yet at the moment I feel like I have a full plate.
I'm thinking of holding off on food as well unless my baby seems to want to eat solids. (like a previous commenter, it was very obvious that my older son wanted to eat when we ate at the table)
Curious as to how often Soul nurses at 9 months w/out eating solids?

  22. ah, that makes me feel so much better! my little boy shepherd is almost 7 months & i haven't started feeding him solids yet, either. & i'm totally dragging my feet. with my first child, heron (now just over 2), i jumped into solid food at 6 months because i was told it would help her "sleep through the night". now that i know that isn't true :), & i know how much more work solids are than breastfeeding, i'm taking my time... breastfeeding is so instant, so convenient, so easy! and shepherd's thighs tell me he's getting what he needs!
